Why is the importance of accessibility-friendly email design standards being ignored, even by large companies? Hyatt is just one of the offenders. While the design of this email does have plenty of room for improvement, the biggest issue is the fact that most of the copy is an image, not text that can be read by screen-readers. Does it come down to the fact that email designers just aren't well-versed enough with ESPs or HTML/CSS to design beautiful emails that actually do meet accessibility standards? Or is it just laziness? Or is it demanding managers who insist on the use of fonts that are not web-safe, thus forcing email designers to make copy into images instead of using actual text? Whatever the reason, accessibility standards are taking center stage more and more in the world of design. Email design should not be an exception.
